Start/Stop Service

Start Service

The City of Orange City is proud to provide electric, gas, water & sewer services to residents. Please check with City Hall to verify which utilities your apartment or home will be billed for. Trash and recycling services are contracted to Orange City Sanitation, but fees are included in your city utility bill.

To begin service please call 712-707-4885, or stop in the City Hall at 125 Central Ave SE between 7am and 4pm M-F. Service request must be received at least 24 hours prior to desired start date.

Signed paperwork will be required. A credit reference from a previous utilities company, or a security deposit ($100 per utility- electric, gas, water) will be required to set up a new account.

The deposit will be credited back to the customer after 12 months of on-time payments, or sooner if the customer stops service.

Stop or Pause Service

Customers must notify the City Utilities office a minimum of 24 hours in advance of any request to disconnect/transfer services.

A resident may request to temporarily stop water/sewer/trash service. A $25 fee will apply at the time of reconnection.

Begin Saving Money on Your Energy Bills Now

You could begin saving money on your energy bill by following a few simple suggestions:

  • Set your thermostat to 68-70 degrees during the winter and 78-80 degrees during the summer.
  • Check and change your furnace filter every one to three months.
Keep obstructions away from the hot and cold air registers.
  • Turn the temperature on your water heater to the lowest setting that still gives you hot water.
  • Use the cold-water cycle on the clothes washer when possible.
  • Use cold water for cooking. Heating water on the stove consumes less energy than using hot water from your water heater.
  • Install a water-saving, low flow showerhead.
  • Turn off lights when they are not in use. If you have children, teach them to turn off lights and conserve energy.
  • Clean the dust off the condenser coils at the back or bottom of the refrigerator once a year. Dirty coils make the refrigerator work harder and use more electricity.
These simple suggestions could help keep money in your pocket!

Project Share

Project Share is a plan created by your municipal utility to assist qualified households in paying their wintertime energy bills.

You can help by adding a Project Share contribution to your monthly utility payment, or by making a direct donation to Project Share. These funds will then be distributed to neighbors in need for wintertime energy costs.

Those qualifying for help will be identified by our local social service agency, Mid-Sioux Opportunity.

So please consider adding a Project Share donation to your utility payment each month. It’s a simple way to share some warmth with those who need it.

Contact the City Office at 712-707-4885 or click here to enroll or make a one-time donation.
